About Extra Care

Extra care simply seeks to offer you the choice of having and maintaining your own home in specially designed accommodation suited to your needs, with the added value of having accessible care and support at hand 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

You may be thinking of moving or having to leave your current home because of life changes, physical needs or health problems, or you may simply be unhappy with where you are living now.  Extra Care housing supports your right to independence and privacy, giving you control and freedom of choice.

In an extra care housing scheme you can continue to live independently in your own home, make new friends and access the 24 hour care and support services based within the building.

It’s a great option if you’re not able to get out of the house much as there’s a community on your doorstep. If you want to, you can get involved in social activities and use the communal facilities in the scheme like the restaurant.

Because extra care housing is purpose built for people over the age of 55, schemes have subtle design features to make it easier for wheelchair users and people with mobility difficulties. There will be level access throughout, wider doorways and space for mobility scooters.
